Hudson Open Results

The Hudson Open was yesterday, my first meet in almost a year and a half. Wow. Felt good going in. The night before I was weighing in at about 152 or 153, giving me about 4 or 5 lbs. to lose overnight. I was drinking about a gallon and a half of water a day up until Friday night, at which point I shut off fluid intake until weigh in.

First weigh in had me at 149.2, leaving about a half lb. to go. Sat in the sauna for about 20 minutes, took a pee, and weighed in naked to make 148.6, just under the required 148.75.

I had about 2 hours to refuel, so after a sandwich and about a gallon of water, I was feeling much better again.

First attempt at squat was at 345. It was really fast and really easy. Second attempt was 365, again felt easy. One red on depth, but still a good lift. Last squat was a 385 attempt. 3 whites, still felt good, probably had a little more in the tank.

Bench sucked. First attempt at 205 was slow, second at 215 was better, and third at 225 stuck halfway up. Stupid. I've hit 225 in the gym a bunch. Should've been easy.

Deadlift, opened at 405. Felt great. Second attempt at 425 was tough off the floor, but still fast. Third attempt at 435 stuck to the floor.

Total was 1025, beating the old 148 raw total by 125 lbs. New records in every category, so I'm happy. I HAVE to get my bench up, though. Something in my training is not working in regard to bench. Time to fix it. New training starts tomorrow. I'll take a week off some other time.

Our meets were close to the same experience. I was walking around just over 4 pounds over. I did the 2 gallons of water a day for 5 days, the shut it off. Had to sit in the sauna and spit, which worked great! Took about 10 minutes to drop .3 pounds.

Nice job on the squats yesterday! They looked fast and easy. Too bad I gaped out on making a video for you. Looks like you have more in you. Squats felt strong for me too.

A 125lbs improvement on total is great news! Way to go! We have to get Amanda to a meet some time. I can show how a meet works, which always makes watching more fun. I put almost 20lbs on my total.

Too bad we missed you deadlift would have liked to see that. I've been watching a lot of deadlifting on you tube.

Thanks Fawn! It was awesome to get to see you and Aaron again. Yea, I wish you could have stayed for deadlift too. You sure didn't miss anything on bench, though. I think we need a sucky benchers club. I've got some little tweaks I'm going to try, and hopefully this next year will be "the year of the bench" finally. If not, as long as squat and dead keep going, I'm still happy. They're more fun anyway.

HELL YEAH MAN!! Excellent work! Whoo ha.

Most only talk about lifting, but you are putting in the time and getting killer results!

I think it is hard to get your bench up when you are a natural lifter that is squatting 3-4xs per week! hahah. How much did you put on your squat over a few months? Some nutty number. I think you may be able to keep your DL up or increase it a bit doing the squat cycle though.

Seriously, take the same method you did for squats and apply it to bench. I know you will SMOKE your missed lift next time then. Bench will then be your BEST lift. Change your mind first, and the body HAS to follow.

Nice chatting the other night and too bad I could not make it out to watch ya--silly dissertation.

Rock on!!
